WALKING WITH GOD
Restoring Broken Glass
God has the amazing power to mend the hurts of this world that break our soul.

Just the sight of it sent my mind into a tailspin. Broken glass was everywhere. It took me a couple minutes to figure out what had happened: someone had vandalized my car, breaking the front window and taking my GPS system. It was not so much the stolen goods or the damage to the car that rocked me. It was just the fact that the secure world I knew was shattered – coming to the realization we are all vulnerable to attack, even if it means to this small degree, certainly not to the degree that some face in places like Darfur, where individuals’ homes and lives can be destroyed in an instant. Even though it was just a window—and not much worse—the glass that lay sprawled on the street and in my seat deeply me. I had faced trials of many kinds but it had been a long time since I had been a victim to someone else’s greed and rage. Sadly, it was a reminder of what sin can do in this world.
Out of instinctual reactions, I threw a couple, “Why God?” out to Him…but knew the answer: turn the other cheek, pray over those that did this, move forward with under God’s hedge of protection and sovereignty. And so I did, put a towel over the glass, drove to work, made some calls, went in to get the window fixed that afternoon, bought a new GPS that night, and everything was back as it was.
There’s something about broken glass that is always daunting…just in the way it breaks up and in the way that that the glass that was once in perfect place served such a purpose. When it comes to our lives, there is a lot of things that happen to us that may feel like the glass inside our souls is breaking, especially when we are hurt by others. But the amazing thing is that God always and forever restores us, makes us whole. And through the power of Christ, we have an amazing power to forgive those that might have caused the glass to shatter and instead walk in love not in vengefulness.
Lord, we thank You for Your power to restore. Take all our hurts and make us whole. We love You and will continue to stay close to You in the midst of all that life throws at us. Amen.
