WALKING WITH GOD
Reflecting on the God-given joys of 2009
He is working, always

Every year, no matter how I struggle and strive, it seems that I fall short, a little less than where I want to be, so much more of a hill to climb. But I realize, it’s not about the summit, but about the continual climb – and all the great blessings our awesome God delivers along the way.
This year, more than any of other year, I’ve had to weigh my ‘progress’ not in specific achievements but in the life joys that the Lord has brought my way. I was married in May of this year, a tremendous blessing, one that has taken me off the path of ambition pursuit of life goals and more on a pursuit of my spouse’s heart, day in and day out.
And yet, it is a beautiful thing, to look back and marvel that even without the pursuit of grand accomplishment, our sovereign Lord can do so much in our lives. When I look back at the ‘slide show’ of my 2009 existence, I see numerous people that made it special, that stuck close to me. God has developed a multitude of friendships into something replica of a kinship even when it was looking like certain friendships would/were slipping away as I adjusted to married life and other obligations life threw at me.
I can faithfully say that I woke up each day with a prayer of “Jesus, carry me today,” usually following it with, “let me be a light.” And that is how I have walked, not really on my own accord, but by the precise steps God has put in front of me.
Marriage has been the greatest highlight of this year, first the wedding itself and then the quiet and humble moments I have shared with my wife since, the times of laughter and even the times of tears…just so special to be sharing those emotions out loud, with someone else. The dynamics of our relationship helps me emulate the same emotions with God, to share love with Him, to share joy as well as sorrow.
The Lord allowed me to conclude 2009 with a trip to Spain with my lovely mate, to see sights right next to her and exchange an assortment of Spanish food/tapas. I won’t forget the moments, just savoring the opportunity to take another bit out of the amazing world He has created before us.
Thank You Lord for all of this– can’t wait to see how You, certainly not me, will guide and take me through 2010.
