Out On The Pier

(November, 1980)

I was sitting there staring at the glassy sea, wondering, wondering why I didn't feel free.

Its curious at first sight how the sea is dark... awesome, but with insight, the sea becomes a world of stationed colors flickering in a black ominous field. The water is very still... its quiet out here on the pier, but the beautiful lights still flicker at two in the night. Yes, I wonder why I'm here and them notice the crystal-like shore line at the other side of the bay; glowing and flickering, and, at a glance, is of an unknown knowledge.

A disturbance! A disturbance in the sea. A rumbling sound of a two eyed creature moving about on MY sea. I'm afraid for the lights (how beautiful they are). My anxiety is higher than ever before. The creature: it finally leaves the bay. Quiet once again. The stationed colors, the lights, they return. They have appeared again. I'm cold.

Why? Why am I out here? I must continue for my Father's sake, for an unknown; until I go across the sea to find out. Yes, its simple. The lights, the color of them, they're reflections of another time. Their origin is clear now. For they're reflections from the shore of distant colors. This is seen through me to understand it. Question is: who saw this situation and didn't understand it before hand? Who's eyes am I at times? Mystified by the sea once again. I leave for the cold is unbearable. Back to my time I return to rest. Back I return with only the memory of the lost past in the infinity of all those beautiful colors and the silence of the sea to share with no one. My love is great for all people and things, but it seems lost at sea as I return from the pier. I'll survive and press on, because You, Lord, are with Me. At least I can count on that. Amen to whatever You're up to.

The huge still mass of water was the Coronado Bay at an old military pier (I had just joined the US Submarine Service back then) in the city San Diego, CA. The two-eyed creature... if you live near the sea, and have sat at a fishing pier in the early morning dark hours, then you know what it was...

All my love in Jesus, Tracy
