GALLERY : Haiti Journey - USS Normandy Relief Efforts
Shortly after the 7.0-magnitude earthquake in Haiti, members of the Norfolk-based cruiser USS Normandy, to include me, were directed to get underway and make best speed to Haiti. These photos display the efforts that Normandy and its Sailors were able to make during the 21 days they were involved in the effort. The ship helped launch helicopters that would make deliveries and transport people inside Port-au-Prince; the ship also sent a shore party to coastal towns on the island of La Gonave, just off the coast of Haiti, to distribute aid to them. These photos display the efforts we took…though there are so many in Haiti that have played a part in the healing process.
