PRAYER + PRAISE
A Call to a More Righteous Pursuit of Life
- Adam R. Cole // February 6, 2009
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. —2 Peter 1:2-4
By virtue of His salvation in us, we are very keen on sin. We know what it looks like, we know what it feels like.
But yet, though we are not perfect, and cannot be as Christ-like as Christ, too often we fall short, simply because we don't believe in ourselves that we can rise higher, we don't don the cross enough, we don't truly commit in the ways that Christ has taught us.
God is a loving God. We know this. But He is also stern, as He delivered wrath on His people many times. Therefore, we must approach the Lord with utter reverence and not do the things that might bring Him pain and sorrow.
Sin appears in all types. Some of us may be doing the little things that bring it on, things that our society says is ok. A lie here, lustful thinking, putting someone down to raise ourselves up, letting greed enter our hearts, gluttony, deceitfulness…
So much can swirl us and bring us down – and ultimately separate us from God, the Holy Creator.
Let us stand together, then, with Christ to truly examine ourselves, to understand God's Lordship of our lives, to repent of wrongdoing and then move in a more righteous direction, to give Him full and complete reverence, and turn from the things that bury us.
Praise: That we serve a God that gives us such high standards to live by.
Prayer: That we live according to His commandments.
Prayer for Today: Dear Lord, we thank You for today. We thank You for the call on our lives to live a more righteous life. We thank You for You son, who died for us. Let realize that His death should not be taken in vain – and that we should follow ever-so closely His walk on this earth. We love You Lord and Praise You. In Jesus Name, Amen.
