PRAYER + PRAISE

His Word Shines on our Path

Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path. —Psalm 119:105

God, in the process of creation and when He manifested Himself as man, is greatly linked to light.

Here in the psalm above, taken from a very unique psalm that is broken up in 22 parts, a section for each letter of the Hebrew alphabet, we see the concept of light connected with path. Connected in a way that His Word, which He breathed, which fills our souls, will be our lamp and in turn become our light, allowing us to walk on a path, not in darkness and sin but in righteousness. It also relates to walking in a way that God will sort of illuminate where we are headed, in a sort of light at the end of the tunnel sort of way, so that we do not have to be fearful or anxious, because our path is very well lit.

It is key that the psalmist focuses in on God’s Word for that light. That Word as we know is through the revelation we read in the Bible; it can also be the Word God speaks to us in our quiet time and when we are silent enough to listen. Earlier in the psalm (35), the psalmist claims that His words are as sweet as honey.

Like most psalms, this psalm speaks of revival, salvation; it speaks of walking and delighting in the Lord’s commandments. He humbly asks God to enlarge his heart.

Such emotional longings expressed to the Lord demonstrate a ready heart for change, a ready heart to receive what God is going to do. The change comes from God’s Word. But it begins with an open and available heart.

Praise: That God’s Word lights our way.

Prayer: That we seek out God’s Word and let it soak and develop in the heart.

Prayer for Today: Lord, we thank You for today, as every day. We thank You for the amazing and transforming power of Your Word, which like You, is light. Let Your Word please fill us Lord and truly be the light to our steps that we know it can be. Let us see that light, so we make walk more righteous before You and be a strong witness to the world. All for Your Glory Lord. In Jesus Name, Amen.
