PRAYER + PRAISE
Alive in His Grace and Truth
- Adam Cole // August 27, 2009
For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. —John 1:17
In one verse, we see the transforming power that was the free gift brought by Christ and that was Christ. Before Him was the law, a way of life that made its followers be consumed by a set order for living that when expounded on by man, set to create a rule for every facet of life.
However, Jesus put a halt to all of that, by bringing something better than the law, by delivering grace and truth to each of us. By grace, we come to understand forgiveness, we come to understand that our Holy Father forgives us of misdeeds as long as we repent and come to Him. Most of all, we get truth, an eternal truth, that is a greater guide to life than any law.
We cannot live by a collection of stipulations, but instead the powerful truth of Christ, freely giving grace to others along the way, as God gives us grace.
And then, we must take this one step further, as verse 18 does. 18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
If we truly ‘get’ this grace and truth thing, this ideal of ever-abounding love despite the circumstances and the eternal truth of knowing in our hearts what is right, if we understand this only in a way as Jesus Christ has delivered it straight to our hearts, then we shall ‘see’ God, for He is revealed to us through Christ in this special way.
Praise: That we live in the grace and truth of Christ.
Prayer: That His truth fills us more each day.
Prayer for Today: Lord, we love Your ways. We love the way that You carry us through every type of circumstance. You have given us grace and truth through Your son, and by accepting Him, we receive those elements. Now, let us walk in that, and experience You more daily. Thank You Lord for all of this. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
